What this application is for
Self Defense 4 All is a private, internal application built and used by Self Defense 4 All (SD4ALL), the Krav Maga and self-defense school in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey described elsewhere on this site.
We film our own classes and instructional sessions. This application takes those finished videos and publishes them to our own YouTube channel, and reads the video files we have stored in our own Google Drive. That is its entire purpose. It exists so that a coach does not have to hand-upload every lesson, and so the same video is not published twice or published before it has been reviewed.
It is not a product, it is not sold or distributed, and it has no users other than the owner of this business. There is no sign-up. Nobody else's account is ever accessed.
Which Google permissions it requests, and why
The application asks the channel owner to sign in with Google and grant these permissions. Each one maps to a specific thing the tool does:
youtube.upload— to upload a finished lesson video to our YouTube channel. Uploads are created as private; a person reviews each one in YouTube Studio and decides whether it is published publicly.youtube— to set the thumbnail image on a video we uploaded, and to add it to the correct playlist.drive— to read the finished video and thumbnail files from the Google Drive folder where our own footage is stored.
The application only ever reads and writes our own content in our own accounts. It does not read anyone's email, contacts, or calendar, it does not access any Drive file outside our own media folders, and it does not collect information from students or site visitors.
What happens to the data
Video files are read from our Drive and sent to YouTube. Nothing is sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising or profiling. The access token that authorises the application is stored on a single machine belonging to the business owner and is never transmitted anywhere else. Access can be revoked at any time from the Google Account permissions page, which immediately stops the application working.
